Every pregnancy carries a small risk that a baby will be born with heart disease (about 1 in every 133) and this increases slightly with family history, age and other factors.
We want to improve the lives of babies born with serious heart disease.
Over 150,000 adults in the UK have congenital heart disease and about 2,500 heart babies are born every year.
Congenital Heart Disease (CHD) in Children
Congenital heart disease (CHD) describes the presence of a cardiac anomaly from birth. It is unfortunate that the initials CHD may stand for congenital heart disease or coronary heart as this can cause confusion. In this article, CHD will always mean the former.
Please Note: Parents who have just learned that their baby may have congenital heart disease (CHD) often search the Web for information. Often, this can produce more worry than reassurance.
We are all individual and unique and only a specialist can provide a diagnosis specific to your baby. Refer to Detection and diagnosis of congenital heart disease.
We have created a new page where you can find out when our events are taking place. You can still view our news section for announcements and news on events but we also decided to include an events page for all our events. Click here to view this page. Click here to view our latest event.
